Name: DJ Smith
Where do you currently live?: Colorado Springs, CO
Current occupation: Territory Sales Manager
Describe some of your favorite activities.: Baseball and basketball are my goto's. All sports really, but those two are the ones I play the most. Snowboarding too, because the top of a mountain with good music and good snow is my happy place. I love movies too, more specifically, I love to go to the movies. Especially the theaters with the reclining chairs. Those are the bomb.
How would close friends and family describe you?: Outgoing, loyal, hilarious, passionate, argumentative, driven, competitive, intelligent, observant.
Name a few fun facts about yourself no one would guess just by looking at you.: I'm really into Japanese video games. So much so that my left arm is entirely dedicated to just one of them. I also want to be a writer. Science-fiction or spy novels are my favorites, but historical fiction is also super interesting to get into. As far as something people wouldn't guess from looking at me, one thing might be that I grew up on a sort of mini-farm. A few horses, couple goats, a dozen or so chickens, rabbits, packs of dogs, and cats everywhere, it was an interesting and dirty childhood. Not what you'd expect from growing up just an hour North of Seattle. But I hate country music. It's pretty bad and it all sounds the same.
Do you have a favorite quote?: "I am simply myself, nothing more, nothing less."
-One of those Japanese video games I love so much.
What is your strategy going into the game?: My strategy for this game is to come in and make friends with everyone. I want to be the one who knows where everyone's votes are going. I know that not everyone in the cast will have known that I won Sequester 9.0, but I still need to go into this thinking that I'll be a big target from the get go. I'll have to go vote by vote, staying as fluid and adaptable as possible, but if I can remain low profile until the final 9 win I can battle back anytime I get voted out, I will have a great chance to win. I think challenges are my strength, but I'm also pretty empathetic, so I can understand people's motives quickly, so my alliance will be strong if I can get some good reads on people and play the quiet second in command to a big voice early on then take over as things get going.
Which past Sequester player did you like the most and why?: I have 3
1. Tourissa - Forever the Iris to my Barry.
2. Kurtis - A savage in the confessionals, and very sharp instincts.
What would you say your biggest weakness is in a game like Sequester?: Second guessing myself or my plans.. Stagnation makes me nervous, so if things aren't happening I start to think about all the things that are happening that I'm not a part of. sometimes this can lead to me making a move too soon, when all I had to do was sit back, breathe and trust my initial instincts. of all my failures, 90% have come from me deciding to change the plan at the last second. So lets hope I can keep myself in check and relax. The problem is that I'd rather go out knowing I did everything I could to stay alive than going out sitting on my hands and hoping for the best. So we'll see how I do.
What type of person is your biggest threat in a game like Sequester?: My biggest threat in a game like this is definitely someone who is aware of their own flaws. I mean, everyone knows they have things they need to work on, but they only remember those things when they are asked to list them, or identify them period. Some people, however, are very aware of their flaws, making them very aware of when those flaws are being exploited. It may sound sleazy, but anyone who claims they're empathetic should know that having that kind of insight into someones point of view also gives you a pretty good idea of their flaws as well. And I've become a bit of an expert at exploiting those. If someone is insecure about their intelligence, chances are they will pretend to know things that they don't as to not feel left out of a conversation. You can use this to push forward plans they don't fully understand or reference things that they may not remember fully to entrap or frame or save them, given the situation. But, when someone is aware of these flaws and honest with themselves about them, they see through the games very quickly and that always ends up bad for me.
What type of personalities would you describe as opposite of yours?: An introverted person who shies away from confrontation and challenges. Someone who is very religious and believes in fate over free will. A person who thinks the best defense is just a really good defense... and someone who takes themselves and everyone around them 100% serious 100% of the time. Also someone who takes things personally. If I get voted out I'm not going to cause a scene or cry or bitch at anyone, because that's how these games are played. We sign these contracts fully knowing that our emotional and mental health will probably take a beating. These people are going to play their game regardless of who's back they have to stab. You're not special because I lied to you, you're just playing a game in which that's a core function.
What do you think is the most common mistake that people make in a game like this?: Thinking that they are safe. You are never safe. EVER!! If you don't feel like at least one person is lying to you or holding something back, then literally everyone is lying to you and you're going home.
If you win Sequester what do you predict the final vote count to be?: If I win, it'll probably be pretty messy again, so I expect a 1 vote difference in the votes. 4-3, Deej for the win.
